1-2-3 Magic is a discipline technique for parenting and managing children's behavior. It was developed by Dr. Thomas W. Phelan and is based on a three-step process:
Step 1: Counting to Three - Parents count to three when a child is misbehaving. This serves as a warning to the child that their behavior needs to change.
Step 2: Time-Out - If the child continues to misbehave after the count of three, they are sent to a designated "time-out" area for a brief period of time.
Step 3: Positive Reinforcement - Parents reward children for good behavior by praising and reinforcing positive actions.
The goal of 1-2-3 Magic is to teach children appropriate behavior and self-control through a combination of consequences for misbehavior and positive reinforcement for good behavior.
